Welcome To The Sussex Writers Awards Competition

Book spineWith global bestselling authors as the competition judges, an amazing first prize and a glittering awards ceremony to look forward to for all entrants, there is no reason for any budding author not to enter their literary works.

Unlike any other writer’s awards, the competition is open only to writers aged 18 and over, presenting fiction and who have never been commercially published.  Entrants must live in East or West Sussex or currently reside at a university in the county.  This is an opportunity for every budding writer to find out if they have got what it takes to be a bestselling author.

To enter the competition, entrants need only to submit a synopsis of about 500 words of the novel they have written (or want to write) plus 1,500 words that show their writing style. It might be an opening of a chapter or a dramatic passage from any part of the story.  Even an unfinished novel could win the coveted first prize. Judges are looking for potential.

The competition is in aid of The Whitehawk Inn, a Brighton based charity focused on training people and helping them get into work.  The organization does amazing work that changes peoples everyday lives.  For more information on the charity, including course details, click on the logo at the top of the home page or go to www.whinn.org.uk

All entries will be read by a panel of judges headed by literary scout John Parsons who was a former Managing Director of HarperCollins Publishers.  The judges will choose eighteen of the best entries and those eighteen will then be invited to submit their full novels.  The best six of these will be judged by a panel of international bestselling authors.  The final winner and holder of the first ever Sussex Writers Awards Trophy will also be awarded a contract with a top London literary agent.

The competition will run throughout 2010 and finish with a glittering awards ceremony, early next year.

The three judges confirmed are Peter James, Louise Rennison and Kate Mosse.  For further information, see the Judges page.

RSVPR are the competition organizers and would like to stress upon all entrants that this is a fun competition with serious prizes.  All entrants should be aware that they are hoping this will give those who might just want to tell a story, the chance to express themselves without necessarily depending on it as a future career.

Good Luck to all entrants.
